Confession time, as I think you’re due.  I don’t usually talk about my health and such on the site. But I’ve been fighting an infection via antibiotics for a couple weeks, and last week I was hit really hard with something.  My fever and reactions were so bad, Andrew was told by the doctor that if it gets even a wee bit worse to race me to emergency or call an ambulance.  Luckily, things turned that evening and since then it’s been a slow and steady climb towards health.  Not 100% there yet, but enough that I managed a little run last night.

This is not to get any pity, just a truth moment as to why I’ve been absent on the site.  It’s not that I don’t care, it’s just that my outfit changes have involved changing from sweat soaked pajamas to fresh pajamas.  So I’ve also had nothing to post.

Lastly, being perfectly honest, this outfit is from just before I was hit hard for my week long stay in bed.   Hope you guys have a great Monday!

It’s morning, we’re both in our fluffy, fleece PJs, and Baby Girl says to me, “Go work on your commuter, Mama.”

‘Okay!”  I don’t often get toddler allowed time to be by myself, and not distracted or hounded for attention, so this is something I don’t ask twice about.   Off I go into the other room, where I can work and still see half the living room in which she’s watching Blue’s Clues.

I check email.  I respond to a few things. Read a few things. etc.  Suddenly I realize it’s been really quiet.  Very quiet.  That ‘I-Know-You’re-Up-To-No-Good’ quiet.  My mommy senses are tingling.  So I leave the safety of my computer and slowly creep into the next room.

Cautiously peeking around the corner, I see:

Baby Girl sitting in her underwear, PJs torn off and cast aside, munching on a pickle.

Social Media Is An Ad W%@*#

Social Media.  Yeah, I’m talkin’ about that today.  It used to be that twitter was for trying to be the wittiest possible.  The game was, “How profound can you be in 140 characters?”  It used to be that.

Now, now it’s a freakin’ ad whore.  *sorry Grandma.  Wait, what am I apologizing for?  My Grandma has a fouler mouth then I* Yup, I used that term, and I meant it.  It seems that every tweet I read is about this giveaway, or that review, or this product.  I get it.  Everyone’s making money off these reviews, and giveaways *don’t get me started on how many are illegal!*.  But really?  Can we not all temper it a bit?  Can it not be every single effin’ tweet that I read?

All you fellow fashion and beauty bloggers, can we please regain a sense of decorum?  I would love it if everyone used a bit of self restraint.  Please let’s all go back to political discussions and profound thoughts in 140 characters or less.  Sure, fine, squeeze in that review or giveaway tweet.  Fine, I get it.  It’s all about promotion.  But I would really enjoy a little substance with my superficiality.  All I’m asking is that not every other tweet be about the review, or giveaway.  Can we at least manage every fourth tweet?   Is it really too much to ask?

If I met you on the street you wouldn’t talk to me with ads and shameless self-promotion would you?  If you did, I might punch you….or I might dream about punching you and simply walk away while you’re mid sentence.  So let’s bring back a little of that human sincerity into social media.  Can we all just do that?  Is that okay?  By the way, read my review of  “Human Sincerity” and enter the giveaway too.

These boots?  Super clearance.  I’m talkin’ the final, final clearance.  The sweater?  Same thing.  Bought it in late spring tucked away in the back of the boutique with the final, final, final markdowns.  The Jeans?  Ditto.  Clearance.  Same goes for the necklace.  The only thing that wasn’t clearance was the shirt, which was a gift.

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it time and time again – thank you all for hatin’ on the things I love…..’cause that means I get ’em cheap.

*side note:  I had a totally different post lined up, but when I started going through the pictures, I laughed when I saw that everything here was on the final final clearance when I bought it.*

Ever Malleable

aztec-sweater-winter-casual

The Labodorite Pendant from SNS Jewelry Studio has this amazing ability to change color depending on what I wear. Here it’s a crisp, almost grayish, blue, but against my teal shirt at home it has a decided green look to it. It’s as variable as the weather, and as varied as it’s owner in temperament. Yes, we too shall get on just wonderfully, I think.

It’s interesting to hear how others sometimes see you.  It’s also interesting to hear the varied accounts of the same.  “Sweet, kind, intelligent” have been used, as have “unguarded and open.”  But just as rightfully, one could use acerbic and withdrawn, as every bright side of the moon has it’s dark.  Sometimes I wish I had the ability to play the political/social game better.  But for better or for worse, I seem incapable of the kind of gentle sway and sweet ingratiating that comes so naturally to others.

I often feel like this pendent – changeable and malleable depending on internal and external forces alike.  And helpless to conceal it.

What Rules?! : How To Wear Sequins During The Day

cardigan-sequin-chunky

Slouchy Sweater –  Jana  //  Sequin Top & Earrings – F21  //  Top & Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Scarf – Street Stand

Sequins are only meant for the night, that rule is so antiquated I think.  It’s a perfect rule to break today.

I think the key to wearing sequins during the day is to keep everything around it laid back and casual – that means thicker textures and unstructured fits, like this chunky knit cardigan, and distressed jeans.   The worn in jeans, the loose fit and the thick scarf all add an air of casualness to this, which works against the dressed up feeling of the top.

And who doesn’t love a little sparkle in their day, am I right?

Next week – I’m mixing more prints.  Come back then.

This is How We Roll…or How A Toddler Saved Her Dad

Andrew made a mess of the counter and walked away.  I walked up to said counter, looked at it, and turned to him, “Really?  Is this how we roll in this house?”  From the peanut gallery on the couch came a little girl voice, “No Mama!  I show ya.”
She got on the floor on her back and proceeded to barrel roll down the length of the kitchen saying, “Look!  This is how you roll Mama.  See?”
I looked at Andrew and said, “You realize she just saved your butt, right?”
Side note:  these palazzo pants are so amazing.  I think other than pleather pants, palazzo pants are my other love.

The Perfect Fedora

Top – Ruche //  Jeans – Gap  //  Hat – known  //  Sandals – Rocketdog  //  Sunnies & Earrings – F21
Yes I’m still on set and will be for a while.  All week in fact, so these photos are actually from the weekend.  Sorry, fooling you a bit here.  But I love a great fedora.  Biking around this summer has meant that I don’t get to wear them that much, as I’m always wearing my helmet, but a fabulous fedora is pretty much my perfect accessory. That and amazing sunglasses.  Can’t live without those.

Today. Today, I Am On Set

Top – Lush // Skirt – H&M //  Sandals – Rocketdog  //  Necklace – Threadsence  //  Sunnies – F21

Today, is the first day of a long awaited project and it’s going to be great.  Today.  Today, I am an actor and producer.

Vampires And Kimonos??

Top – c/o Gracie B. Boutique // Jacket – Zara  //  Shorts & Sunnies – F21  //  Boots – DIYed  //  Necklace – Ardene
I love kimonos.  Honestly, can’t get enough, and I want to own every single one.  The problem?  I’m still figuring out how to wear them.  I’m playing and trying to see what works for me and what doesn’t.  Maybe here’s where I can finally stat using Pinterest.  Oh that’s what that thing is for right?
I’m gonna play folks.  I’m gonna have some fun…but be warned, that means some outfits may suck.  And suck a lot.  It takes trial and error to figure things out.  Get ready for some major suckage.
*Side note:  I believe I may be watching too many Vampire things lately…everything ‘Sucks’*
