Jennifer Fukushima Promo Code!

Jennifer-Fukushima-cardigan-boho-top

I’m a little OCD when it comes to care of my clothing, and generally possessions of worth. Not because I’ve got some strange attachment to them but because I’m very frugal.  If you care for it, it will last a long time right?  I still have clothes from high school.  I know, right?

But a classic red dress never goes out of style. So I’ve kept it. Same with this Jennifer Fukushima cardigan – or the one in green. It’s one of those pieces that can stand the test of time because it’s a classic. Plus, Toronto made, with a focus on sustainability and renewable resources? Yes please!

Whether your style is boho like mine, vintage, classic, minimal – whatever – this fits right in.  But can we please just talk about the incredible texture on it?  Can we? Okay.

Look at all the delicate and detailed pattern shifts and changes. Amazing.  It’s also really soft and light.  When I picked it, I was kind of expecting a slightly stiffer tweed like material, but this just bends and moves and sways in the wind.  Plus, I kind of think of blue as a neutral – mostly ’cause I have so much of it, that a classic blue just goes with anything I own.  I’m totally wearing this as a light layer over summer dresses in the next few months….sometimes a great little cardi is the perfect alternative to a kimono on those days you just want something light, or you’re, you know, not as obsessed with kimonos as me, and actually prefer to look very put together.  Whatever.

And hey, guess what?  Jennifer has kindly extended a 30% off discount code to ModaMama readers for the month of May!  OMG!!!!  Yeah, get on this.  Use code “MODAMAMA30”

Road Trip Wishing thinking

Johnny-Cash-tee-black-leather-biker-jacket-jeans

Janis Joplin blasting in my car.

The sun roof open and the suns rays hitting the back of my neck.  The windows rolled down and the wind whipping my hair. Driving in a moment like that makes me feel like I should ditch it all and go on some sort of epic road trip.  The kind where adventures find you and you’ll be sleeping in your car at least once.  The kind where camp fires will be had, jokes will be made, and someone is gonna pull out a guitar.

You know, the kind we all want to have.

Sartorial Minimalism?

Vintage-vest-flare-jeans-free-people-boho

I look at minimalist outfits a lot…wistfully so. Wishing that my closet consisted of clean black, white, grays – it seems like such an effortless chic sartorial existence. But then you know what?  I am immediately drawn to color pattern, embroidery, fringe, and what could be called a sartorially bold choice for the everyday. This vest.  Most people would not grab it for their everyday. I did. This vintage piece is now an essential, a must-have if you will *some of you will get that reference, others, will need to click on the link*

And when it comes down to it, it’s the perfect expression of my style.
That, and neutral sandals.

Age Appropriate, Who Cares Anymore?

Ombre-dress-tribal-sweater-boho-style

There’s this time where I was really concerned about whether what I was wearing was age appropriate.

But recently, I just don’t care.  I am who I am and that’s just that.  I’ve never been a booty short kind of girl, so there’s really no fear of my being that kind of woman.  Otherwise, braided buns over 30 with boho dresses? Why the heck not?  You just gotta be who you are you know?

Girl with Attitude

Child-boho-tutu-new-york-shirt

Remember when I talked about my girl’s burgeoning fashion sense last month? Well, through a series of events, we *read: her, totally her* ended up choosing some different items instead of what I had envisioned. Which is fair, she should get to choose.

When they came she was more than a little excited to get to wear them.  Melijoe does not disappoint. Everything is really great quality: the tutu is fluffy but solid, and the shirt is super vibrant and soft. Comfort is such an important factor for me with her wardrobe.

As luck would have it, Daddy’s birthday was only two days away.  So we saved them for the special day.  She got all dressed up with tights and her ‘pretty shoes,’ and rocked her purple sunnies, pink tutu, and New York shirt with nothing but serious attitude.

If I could Coachella…

Spell-Designs-Coachella-inspired-duster-boho-outfit

….I would.  If I could take the time off. If I had the finances. If I lived closer.  I totally would.  But I can be there in sartorial spirit.  In fact, I pretty much live there in sartorial spirit.  Here’s to all of us who wish to be there.  Here’s to the dreamers, the lovers, the make believers.  I’m right there with you.

Love. Peace.

Still desolate, still snowy ice caps, but it’s a beach. The wind was cold and howling but…. It’s a beach and it’s not covered with piles and piles of snow.  It’s a beach.  That in itself makes me very happy.

What’s making you happy today?

Breezy Arnhem Maxi Dress

Arnhem-dress-womens-boho-gypsy-fashion

The sun is shining, the temperature is up and the breeze is blowing through my dress.

Walking around I finally felt that beautiful thing that is the breeze blowing through your dress, and the sun caressing the back of your neck. It was warm – well warmer – than it has been for a long time. This deliciously light, soft, and breezy dress has been in my closet for a little while. It was calling, nay screaming, out for the barometer to rise. A long and light dress with floral prints epitomizes Spring to me. There’s something about that feeling when you’re walking down the street and can feel sun, material, and a warm breeze on you at the same time. It’s a calming feeling, a soothing feeling, a moment that makes you breathe and love life

Cleaning up after dinner, I reached down and squeezed my little girl’s bum.

“Mama, why you do that?”

“‘Cause I like your bum.  It’s beautiful.”

“No Mama, my bum’s not beautiful.”

“No?”

“No. ‘Cause bums are stinky and farty.”

“Okay, well I still think it’s beautiful.”

“Maaaama,” she says shaking her head.

A friend has this great tradition called Feast of the Swine.  On Easter, he gets people together and the menu is pork.  Various connotations, various servings – from pie, to sausages, to olives wrapped in bacon – but it’s got to be pork.  This year I attended the pork feast.  And a feast it was.

Bacon wrap grilled pineapple, and bacon wrapped olives, and also apple bacon bourbon pie.  Oh yum!  It was just yum!
