I’ve been reading a lot of post-apocalyptic fiction lately.

And what’s really fascinating is seeing it written from a man’s then a woman’s perspective. The men talk about survival, loneliness, and violence they have to do. The women immediately talk about sexual assault, how they protect themselves, and what kind of violence is done upon them. Now, this is not about the world after the apocalypse, this is the world as it is now. This is the lived experience of women. Whether we are conscious of it or not, we are always threat assessing. So remember that, men, please, as you go about your day today: all the women around you are constantly threat assessing because that is our lived experience.
