Ever Malleable

aztec-sweater-winter-casual

The Labodorite Pendant from SNS Jewelry Studio has this amazing ability to change color depending on what I wear. Here it’s a crisp, almost grayish, blue, but against my teal shirt at home it has a decided green look to it. It’s as variable as the weather, and as varied as it’s owner in temperament. Yes, we too shall get on just wonderfully, I think.

It’s interesting to hear how others sometimes see you.  It’s also interesting to hear the varied accounts of the same.  “Sweet, kind, intelligent” have been used, as have “unguarded and open.”  But just as rightfully, one could use acerbic and withdrawn, as every bright side of the moon has it’s dark.  Sometimes I wish I had the ability to play the political/social game better.  But for better or for worse, I seem incapable of the kind of gentle sway and sweet ingratiating that comes so naturally to others.

I often feel like this pendent – changeable and malleable depending on internal and external forces alike.  And helpless to conceal it.

It’s Official, I Hate Children’s Building Blocks

.  Never mind that I step on them several times a day and either hurt my foot, or trip and hit some other part of my body.  Never mind that they get everywhere and are impossible to all corral into the same box.  No, that’s not why I hate them.

I hate them because Baby Girl loves them.  She loves them so much that she wants, “Mommy, you come build with me?”  all day and every day.  I have built something at least twenty times a day for the last two weeks.  And that’s about the limit of my sanity.

I hate building blocks.  Hate them!

*pause*

*sigh*

“Yes, I’m coming to build with you honey.”

A Tribal Cardigan and Star Wars Tank Will Not Win a Toddler Over

Even a cozy tribal, aztec cardigan *which my daughter likes to cuddle in* wasn’t enough when I came home.  She had been having fun all day, and when mommy came home she was having none of it.  She came up, and instead of the usual hug, I got a firm shove out the front door.

That did not feel good.

And then the following day she did not want me to leave.  Ugh, kid, can you make up your mind?  It’s really tough when you play roly poly with my emotions like this.

She’s lucky she’s cute.

And that I have a steady supply of wine and chocolate.

What Rules?! : Mixed Metals

Sweater – Cotton Candy   // Skirt – Uncle Phuncle c/o Emerging Thoughts  //  Coat – UO  //  Tights – Hansel From Basel  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Leaf Necklace – I forget  //  Pearl necklace – Ruche  //  Purple Chain – bought in Spain  //  Right Hand Bracelet – F21  // Left Hand Bracelet – made by me

The link up was a bit of a failure.  I think that means you guys just want some inspiration.  Which is totally cool with me!  So I’m going to continue breaking fashion rules, and if you’d like to join me leave your link in the comments and I’ll be sure to check them out.  ‘Cause I love seeing what you do too.

Next week I’m breaking a rule from the 50’s that said you should never wear high heels with cropped pants.  Apparently the connotation was that you were more than a bit promiscuous.  So I’m breakin’ that rule next week before it gets too cold to do so.

Appreciation, It’s A Hard Thing

Top & Earrings – F21   //  Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – c/o Dansko
It’s a casual day.  A slow day today.  A day where I get to lounge.  Translation:  I get to have a 10 k run, catch up on emails, edit photos, and do research for a new project that I’m trying to get off the ground.  So you know, practically nothing.  But it does feel that way at this moment.
It feels like I should be on set, memorizing lines, or running to an audition.  We always want what we can’t have and we never fully appreciate what we do have.
So I’m going to do my best and appreciate this slow time.  This week of rest, research and catch up.  Oh and a facial from Pure+Simple!  Can’t wait to show you guys that experience.

Weapon of Women’s Story

Sweater Cardi – Fate via ShopSosie  //  Dress – Love Nail Tree via Coal Miner’s Daughter  //  Boots – Call It Spring  //  Belt – Threadsence
I love the philosophy of Love Nail Tree:  the mission to tell stories that are neglected.  It makes me think of the quote that says *I’m paraphrasing as I don’t recall the exact words* if you want to tell original stories, tell stories about women because they’re never written.   So I thought it was appropriate that I wore this dress, which has a piano and says ‘Weapon of Story,’ to the set of Synchronicity.  It’s the soft sci-fi feature film I’m producing featuring a mostly female cast, and a female lead.

Stay Cool WIth Star Wars

Tank, Sunnies, Yellow Bracelet & Shorts – F21 //  Shoes – ModCloth  //  Bag – Threadsence  //  Pink Cuff – Brandy Melville

The heat and humidity are killin’ my style.  I’m trying my best to stay cool, and stay upbeat. *I find the humidity oppressive* Most days I want to lounge around in front of my fan wearing the absolute bare minimum that courtesy will let me get away with.  But going out to a script read through means that I need to get dressed.  And I did, but my brain was not focusing on anything.  I barely made out the words on the script in front of me.  It was rough.  Though Star Wars always helps!

If you have any, I would love your styling stay cool tips!

Heat Wave Dressing

Dress – Lace Affair //  Shoes – ModCloth  //  Bag & Necklace –  Threadsence  //  Bracelets & Sunnies  – F21
We’re in the middle of a heat wave here.  And when forced to wear clothes I am reaching for light, white, and as little as possible.  So this simple dress seemed perfect.  And of course I couldn’t resist wearing out my fabulous new purse.  I’ve been eying it for a while, but when it went on a super duper sale, I didn’t think twice!  I love a purse that has so much detail and texture. It’s shiny faux leather on the sides, fabric down the front and back, and the top orange flap is a kind of furry faux animal skin.
Weird and funky pieces seem to be drawing me in recently.  I don’t think it’ll stop.  I think I’m going through a slight style transition.  Much further away from the sweeter dressing in the past, towards I don’t know what.  We’ll see.

Before The Heavens Opened Up

Blouse – c/o Gracie B boutique  //  Shorts – Gap  //  Shoes & Yellow studded bracelet – F21  //  Black bracelet – ebay  //  Red Stone bracelet & Silver Ring – Threadsence  //  Necklace – Ardene  //  Eagle ring – Lulus

To me these pictures signify the soft wet wind that heralded the storm that swept Toronto.  Not five minutes after I clicked the last pictures, the heavens opened up and started the waters that would flood several streets, and a whole section of a downtown highway.  My own bike ride home was doubled in length as floods made me look for alternate routes home, and as I waded through knee high water beneath underpasses.
Throughout it all the cut off shorts coupled with the carefree inspired top helped me look at it all as a grand adventure, and not once did the thought that something bad would happen enter my mind.    That’s probably what attracted me to Gracie B boutique – the optimistic devil may care attitude inherent in their pictures.  Something we could all use a bit of.

This top immediately drew me because of it’s light free flowing cut, and darker design. It’s just one of many unique items that each have a voice of their own.

On that note, why not win a $35 shop credit to this fabulous site.

Wallis Summer Stylist

Top- c/o Wallis  //  Pants & Necklace – F21  //  Shoes – Threadsence  //  Sunnies – Lace Affair  //  Bracelet – thrifted
I’m taking part in the Wallis Summer Stylist Contest.  Basically, if you vote for me I might win a shopping spree and be featured on the Wallis website as their select stylist.  Can I just say that this would be amazing?  I would love this chance to share my style with a new group of incredible ladies.
I chose this amazing top, and when it came I was overwhelmed with the ideas that flowed into my head.  But since this contest is a new thing for me, I thought I’d try two new things and pair it with colored pants.  I know!  I’ve never worn colored jeans here before.  I like how the tones played off of each other and how the bold pant brought out the darker aspects of the top.  Since the pattern on the blouse was so bold, I kept everything else in terms of accessories minimal, allowing the print to speak for itself.
The tribal and ocean air feel of this top has me enthralled.  I would love your support on the Wallis Facebook page with a vote for the win
